A violent criminal who escaped from prison and went on the run for nine months has been apprehended.
41 year old Paul James Butler, from Stockport, was allowed a four day temporary release from Hatfield prison on the 27th May in 2016, however he failed to return to the open prison as required on the 31st May.
Butler was serving a 10 year sentence for wounding with intent after he attacked his flatmate and repeatedly hit him over the head with a hammer and stabbed him in the hand with a kitchen knife. Despite the severity of the attack as he was nearing the end of his jail term he was considered eligible for a temporary release.
Butler was arrested in Hollywood Towers near to the town centre last month, yesterday he was sentenced to a further four months behind bars at Stockport Magistrates Court.
