Two men have been sentenced after an attack on a man with a claw hammer in Stockport that left him with serious head injuries.
Joseph Weston, of Alvanley Crescent, and Brett Weston of Wrenbury Crescent pleaded guilty to section 18 wounding with intent. Both were sentenced on Wednesday 21 December 2016, at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court. Joseph being sentenced to nine years and Brett sentenced to 12 months, suspended for 18 months and 200 hours of unpaid community work.
Shortly after 2.30am on Sunday 25 June 2016, Joseph and Brett Weston went to the George Pub, Wellington Road North, with the intention of attacking their victim, a 31-year-old man.
As the victim left the pub Brett Weston confronted him and punched him. Joseph Weston then, armed with a claw hammer, began a violent and sustained attack on the victim.
Detective Constable Jim Campbell of GMP’s Stockport Borough said: “The Westons launched a vicious attack on a man, with a claw hammer as the choice of weapon."
The pair tried to flee in a car but they collided with a parked car and were detained by police at the scene and arrested.
