Knifeman sentenced after Manchester bus evacuated

A man who caused a bus to be evacuated in Manchester city centre after being found with a knife has been jailed.

Lawrence Peters, 52, of Lichfield Avenue, Reddish, Stockport, was spotted by a passenger on board a rush hour bus with a knife handle sticking out of his trousers.

Manchester Crown Court heard how the driver evacuated the bus and police found Peters asleep at the back. They discovered a meat cleaver, a four-inch steak knife and three snap bags of cannabis.

He was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years, having previously admitted two counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place.
