A man has been jailed after a man was stabbed in Rochdale.
Dean Moores, 37, of Manchester Road, Rochdale was sentenced to five years and five months in prison after pleading guilty to Section 18 Assault and cultivating cannabis.
At around 1.40pm on Wednesday 5 September, his victim – a 26-year old man – was walking along Manchester Road, Castleton, when a Renault Clio pulled into an alleyway nearby.
Moores got out the car and began a verbal confrontation with the man, before getting back in the vehicle, which then drove away.
CCTV evidence then showed Moores re-appear in the area - walking into an alleyway next to a shop on Manchester Road which the victim had entered a short time after the initial confrontation.
When the man left the shop, Moores emerged from the alleyway and stabbed him in the thigh.
After pursuing the man a short distance, Moores got back into the Renault Clio.
The victim was able to limp to a nearby shop and tell staff, who then called the police.
CCTV was examined and Moores was arrested. A subsequent search of Moores’ address revealed a quantity of cannabis.
Detective Sergeant Sam Taylor of GMP’s Rochdale Division said: “This was a cowardly and foolish attack on a man who was left with a serious wound to his leg.
“We are pleased that he has recovered well from his injury and hope that today’s sentence provides a form of closure on the incident.
“Moores’ actions were as foolish as they were brutal – completely ignoring the fact that CCTV captured the majority of the offence, as well as his getaway car.
“Not only did the evidence trail lead officers straight to them, it also led to a significant quantity of cannabis at his property.”
