Gang responsible for £10.2m tax fraud jailed

Two members of an organised crime group, who attempted to claim £10.2m in tax credits using stolen identities of public sector employees, have been jailed for eight years and nine months.

Adedamola Oyebode, from Lewisham, and Oluwatobi Odeyemi, from Kent, stole personal details of 10,300 members of the Civil Service Sports Council and used the stolen data to make false tax credits claims.

During the investigation it came to light that they were assisted by two Leeds residents – Kayode Sanni and Chantelle Gumbs.

Investigators believe the fraudsters conspired with two others who are on-the-run, and are appealing for information on their whereabouts.
