Two Bradford Primary schools have had to close and some children taking their SATs have had to be accommodated in a nearby church hall after a fire broke out at one of the schools yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters from Fairweather Green, Odsal, Rawdon, Shipley, Bradford, Cleckheaton and Idle were called to St Cuthbert and The First Martyrs Catholic Primary School in Scotchman Road at 2.42pm yesterday.
Police were also called to help with the evacuation of pupils and staff.
Daniel Copley, executive head teacher at St Cuthbert & The First Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School, said: “We evacuated the school quickly and all children and staff were kept safe, which is always our key priority.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation but smoke damage has also affected Lister Primary.
St Cuthbert and Lister Primary will be closed to all but Year Six pupils who have SATs exams today and according to the latest update both schools will be closed tomorrow.
