The UK has voted to leave in the historic EU referendum with results locally backing the national trend. The PM David Cameron has announced he is to step down in October.
The blame game continues with the news that two Labour MPs Margaret Hodge and Ann Coffey have submitted a motion of no confidence in Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Voters in Yorkshire and Humber largely voted in favour of leaving the EU – Sheffield became the first major city to declare a victory for leave campaigners with 51% of the vote but Leeds had voted to remain also by a narrow margin, with 50.3% wanting to stay in.
Leave also won in Bradford, Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees but remain was the preferred option for Harrogate and York.
Across the Pennines Manchester voted to remain with 60.4% (121,823 votes cast) of the vote.
There was disappointment in Scotland as last night’s results have led to some in Scotland to call for a re-run of the independence referendum with all 32 council regions in Scotland backing remain.
