Councillors asked to back plans to create more school places to meet demand in Bradford

Bradford Council’s executive is to be asked to approve £5.7m plans to provide more than 300 new places at two primary schools to meet the demand from parents.

At next week’s meeting, proposals will be considered to increase pupil numbers and expand the premises at both All Saints CE Primary School in Ilkley and Poplars Farm Primary School in Bradford.

The expansion work is estimated to cost £2.1m at All Saints CE Primary School and £3.6m at Poplars Farm Primary. The projects will be funded through Basic Need Funding which Bradford Council has secured from the Department for Education.

The proposals are the latest stage in the Council’s on-going work to ensure sufficient school places are available across the district for pupils of all ages.

The authority has already created an extra 8,500 primary school places since 2010.

Bradford Council aims to have a five per cent surplus of places to ensure families coming into the district can be placed in a local school.
