Celebrate The Re-Opening of Shipley Library

Shipley Library will celebrate its re-opening this weekend following a £640,000 'invest to save' refurbishment.

The new look library, which has been revamped for the first time since it opened 30 years ago, has the double benefit of improved facilities for local people and creating a saving for Bradford Council by providing office accomodation for staff from other departments.

On Saturday, 21 May a celebration will take place from 10am until 4pm.

The will be a photographic exhibition of Shipley and the library taking visitors back in time.

Families can produce some animation at The Hive's animation workshops in one of the newly refurbished meeting rooms. The special animations will then be shown throughout the day on screens in the library.

Children's story times will take place at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm and children will be able to play in the pop-up castle and slide which are a feature of the new space.

Airedale and Wharfedale Children's Centre cluster staff will be providing crafts for families on the day.

Bookstart Bear will be on hand to wave everyone into the library and a balloon modeller will be making balloon creations on the day.

The official ribbon cutting will take place at 11am.

Coun Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council, said: "This will be a great day to celebrate the re-opening of the library and a chance for people to come and have a look around the remodelled library and what it has to offer. It is one of our busiest libraries in the district."
