Bolton trio sentenced for attacking ‘white non-Muslims’

Three men from Bolton have been sentenced after they attacked strangers in Liverpool for being “white and non-Muslim”.

Amin Mohmed, 24, Mohammed Patel, 20, and Faruq Patel, 19, all from Bolton, assaulted three men around the Bold Street area of Liverpool during a drunken night on 20 March last year.

Counter-terrorism officers later raided the properties of the men, after a witness believed the suspects may have been affiliated to ISIS.

Liverpool Crown Court heard how the men asked strangers whether they were Muslim and then punched them. Faruq recorded the attacks on his phone and could be heard laughing whilst one victim fell to the ground.

Mohmed claimed he could not remember anything from the night due to his alcohol consumption but Mohammed initially denied the assaults and said that the trio were themselves the target of racial abuse on the night.

However, he confessed to “targeting people because they were white and non-Muslim”.

Mohammed and Mohmed were jailed for 48 weeks, whilst Faruq was handed an 18-week sentence.
