Manchester United have activated a one-year extension clause on goalkeeper David de Gea’s contract ahead of the January transfer window.
Spain international De Gea, 28, joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011. It is believed the triggering of the clause is aimed to avoid any uncertainty over his future as the transfer window beckons.
His contract was due to end in the summer, allowing him to talk to overseas clubs from 1 January and sign a pre-contract agreement.
