Fifa has confirmed it is opening disciplinary proceedings against Dele Alli, over a gesture he made during an England match against Slovakia.
Television pictures captured the Tottenham midfielder raising his middle finger after a body check from Martin Skrtel. The gesture appeared to be aimed towards the referee but Alli claimed after the game that it was a "joke with good friend" Kyle Walker.
Alli, 21, was team mates with Walker at Spurs until the latter joined Manchester City this summer.
It is thought the case will not be dealt with until late September at the earliest.
