Mark Cavendish is unable to compete due to his contraction of glandular fever.
The British cyclist has not rode for his team, Team Dimension Data, since the Milan-San Remo race on the 18 March.
It now looks unclear whether he will be able to continue to race in any of the other spring one-day classics. His team claim that the main focus for Cavendish is this year’s edition of the Tour de France.
The 31-year-old sprint specialist has won 30 stages of the Tour, only four behind the all-time record holder Eddy Merckx.
