Two men sentenced for attack on Taxi Driver

TWO brothers have each been given 12-year sentences after they carried out a vicious attack on a taxi driver when he arrived at his home.

A judge said that the late-night attack on Safraz Din in Keighley in July had come to a head after years of conflict between two families.

"For what you did, I am satisfied, was to carry out a premeditated vicious attack on an unarmed lone man," the judge told the men.

The court heard how Jabar, of Drake Street, Keighley, gathered his gang together and they had armed themselves with baseball bats or pick-axe handles before waiting for Mr Din to get home. Once Mr Din got out of his vehicle, the gang which could have included up to five men, ran down the victim before proceeding to attack him with their weapons.

"As the lights came on in the area you ran away like the cowards that you are," said Judge Rose.

In addition to the 12-year custodial sentences, Judge Rose said the two brothers would also be subject to an indefinite restraining order which would ban them from contacting their victim or his family and excluding them from the street where he lived
