Three-day University of Leeds strike over changes to dismissal policy

Staff at the University of Leeds are taking three consecutive days of strike action in a dispute over changes to the university's dismissal policies.

The strike, which started today, 11 October, follows the university's decision to amend its employment statute.

The UCU union claims the university wants to introduce a new catch-all power which would allow employees to be dismissed for ‘Some Other Substantial Reason’. The UCU has dubbed this a ‘sackers’ charter’, saying it would affect staff terms and conditions and worsen long standing employment protections.
