Shipley Crimestoppers launched

A campaign to fight crime in Shipley has been funded by Bradford Council.

The Shipley Constituency Crimestoppers campaign will be launched at the town’s library at 10.00am on Saturday 20 October.

The council says “the campaign is designed to raise the profile of Crimestoppers in key locations in Shipley which are being affected by crime”.

It will include a range of activities designed to show people how to report information about criminal activity.

Crimestoppers is a way for people to report crime without having to make their identity public. Telephone calls to Crimestoppers are not recorded and phone numbers are not tracked. There is no way criminals can find out who has passed on information about them.

The campaign will include presentations to key groups in the community, posters, leaflets, calling cards, activity on social media and a page on the Crimestoppers website.

The launch will include a presentation of how the campaign will run and a question and answer session for members of the public.

Coun Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “Crimestoppers is a really good way for concerned members of the public to help the authorities tackle the scourge of crime.

“People are often afraid to give information about the criminals in their area because of the fear of reprisals.

“With Crimestoppers, who have specially-trained operatives to make sure that service users retain their anonymity, people need not fear that the criminals will find out who they are.

“I would urge everyone concerned about crime in Shipley to support this campaign.”
