    Public backs local charities but do not know how to support them

    New research released by the People’s Postcode Lottery, to coincide with the government-backed Local Charities Day, shows that 61 per cent of Britons say they value the work local charities do, but nearly a third (32 per cent) don’t know how to give a helping hand.

    The study says that finances came out as the most common reason people avoided giving to charity, as 42 per cent said they don’t have enough money to support local work.

    As part of Local Charities Day members of the public are being asked to show their support for a local cause on social media, using the hashtag #LocalCharitiesDay.

    They are also encouraged to find out more about local charities in their area and look at how they can support them – whether that be by volunteering, donating belongings or other means of support.
