Man tasered by robbers

Police are appealing for information after a man was tasered to the floor during a robbery on a canal path in Strangeways.

The 36-year-old had been walking on Julia Street towards the city centre about 7.20pm on Monday 20^th February. He then crossed over at the junction with Mary Street and walked along the canal path before turning left towards Trinity Way.

It was at this point a man approached him and asked him where he was going. The suspect then pushed the victim and tasered him. As he fell to the floor he noticed a second man stood by him who began kicking him.

They then stole two bracelets from his wrist, pulled a chain from his neck and demanded he hand over his jet black iPhone 7.

The victim managed to break free and ran to a nearby hotel for help. He went to hospital with minor injuries.

The first offender is described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 8ins, plump and was wearing a black Nike hoody with the hood up, black jeans, light coloured trainers and spoke with a Manchester accent.

The second robber was described as white, in his late teens, about 5ft 3ins and slim. He was wearing a dark hooded tracksuit with the hood up.

Inspector Paul Coburn, from GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “Stun guns and tasers are illegal in the UK and can be extremely dangerous when they are in the wrong hands. CCTV footage is currently being reviewed and we are following a number of lines of enquiry to find those responsible.

I’m now asking the public for their help, anyone with any information about this robbery should call police on 101”
