    Man taken to Manchester police station with stab wounds

    A man is in hospital after being taken to a Manchester police station with stab wounds.

    At around 1.30pm on Wednesday 16 August, police received a report of a fight on Oldham Road, Newton Heath, in which witnesses had seen a gun.

    Officers attended but the group involved had dispersed prior to police arrival.

    It has since been established that there had been a collision involving a red Audi and the rear of a blue Peugeot on Oldham Road, both of which were abandoned at the scene and later recovered by officers.

    It has been reported that a short time after the collision, a man from the red Audi had got out of the car and pointed a gun at a man in the blue Peugeot, who subsequently fled and got into a member of the public’s van for safety.

    As the member of the public drove their van along The Gateway, away from Oldham Road, it was rammed by a white Volkswagen Golf.

    The occupants of the Golf dragged the man from the Peugeot from the passenger side of the van before repeatedly stabbing him to the legs and fleeing in the Golf.

    The injured man was taken to Central Park Police Station on Northampton Road where he received treatment by both officers and paramedics before being taken to hospital. He remains in a stable condition.

    Road closures were in place but have now all been lifted and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
