Man Suffers Leg Injuries In Collision With A Tram

A man has suffered severe injuries to his leg after he was involved in a collision with a tram.

At around 12.15am on Thursday 21 July 2016, police were called to St Werburgh’s Road metrolink station in Chorlton to a report that a man had been injured.

Officers and paramedics attended and found that an 18-year-old man had come into contact with a tram that was moving away from the platform.

The man’s right leg then fell into the gap between the two halves of the tram, causing it to be crushed between the tram and the platform edge.

The man suffered severe injuries to his leg and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he is undergoing surgery and remains in a stable condition.

Sergeant Lee Westhead from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this collision to establish exactly what happened, and as well as examining CCTV we are also keen to hear from anyone that witnessed this incident or has information that they believe may assist police enquiries.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police at GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.”
