    Man sentenced to three years following fire engine hammer attack

    A man has been sentenced to three years in prison after he attacked a fire engine with a hammer.

    A crew from Salford responded to a report of a man trapped in a vehicle on 1 October. They found Haman Rihan, 24, unresponsive inside a locked car and used specialist equipment to gain access to him.

    Manchester Crown Court heard how Mr Rihan became aggressive once he was conscious, after finding his car window was broken by the crew.

    He shouted racist abuse and seized a hammer belonging to the firefighters which he used to cause thousands of pounds worth of damage to the fire engine.

    Mr Rihan pleaded guilty to the attack, as well as other offences, and was handed a three-year custodial sentence.
