Man jailed after fatal collision in Salford

A man has been jailed after a fatal collision in Salford.

Matthew Bravender of Deepdale Drive, Agecroft pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to causing death by careless driving whilst over the prescribed limit for a prescribed drug.

On Tuesday, he was sentenced to five years and four months in prison and received a driving disqualification for 7 years and 8 months, at Manchester Crown Court.

Shortly before 6pm on Saturday 30 April 2016, there was a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Littleton Road in Salford. Sadly, the pedestrian, who was later formally identified as 52-year-old Alan Strong, died in hospital from his injuries.

The car, a grey Renault Megane, did not stop at the scene but was later recovered on Dalton Drive.

Sergeant Mark Thomas of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said “This outcome from court should send a message that any person who causes the death of another person, whether on or off the road, will be pursued by police and brought into the criminal justice system.”
