Major Road Schemes Need To Move Forward

Bradford Council is asking for legal powers to alter side roads near two proposed major road improvement schemes.

A report going before Bradford Council's executive committee on Tuesday June 14 advises of the alterations needed to accommodate the schemes planned for the A650 Hard Ings Road at Keighley and the Harrogate/New Line junction at Greengates, Bradford.

Both these schemes will help reduce traffic congestion on busy routes, introduce facilities for pedestrians and cyclists and improve street lighting and air quality.

The £7 million Keighley scheme is being delivered through West Yorkshire Combined Authority's West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund. The A650 Hard Ings Road carries an average of 34,000 vehicles on a typical weekday with around 2,500 at peak times.

Officers are still in negotiations with the owners of land near both schemes.

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council's executive member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: "Both schemes are very important to ease traffic flows on busy routes and we need to do everything we can to ensure they are not delayed."
