Five people involved in a violent robbery at a Leeds garage in which parts for a rare Porsche sports car were stolen have been jailed for a total of 55 years.
Detectives from Leeds District CID embarked on a prolonged and complex investigation to track down those involved, including locating and extraditing the ringleader back to the UK from Bulgaria where he was attempting to evade justice.
Operation Axleford was launched in response to an armed robbery at a business in Water Lane, Holbeck, which specialises in the repair of heavily-damaged, high-value sports cars.
At the time of the robbery in September 2015, the business owner had been repairing a red Porsche Carrera GT, valued between £600,000 and £800,000.
Shortly after 3.30pm on Saturday, September 26, two men visited the shop and enquired about the cost of a car repair. They later left and drove a hire van to the roller door of the shop, before raiding the premises armed with a revolver.
A worker on site had the gun pointed in his face, as well as being pistol whipped, struck with a machete and bound to an office chair with cable ties.
The pair then loaded Porsche Carrera GT parts, worth £140,000, into the van and left the scene.
Following an extensive investigation, five people responsible for the raid were arrested and have since been sentenced to a combined 55 years in prison.
Mark Davies, Jenna Davies, Kai Kennedy, Harry Mahoney and Owen Walcott were each charged with offences relating to the robbery and sentenced to time between six and 13 years in prison for their roles in the incident.
Enquiries are continuing to locate 36-year-old Fazal Wahseem, from Sheffield, who is still outstanding.
He is believed to have left the country around the time of his first court appearance in November 2018. and officers are continuing to carry out enquiries to trace him.
