    Father-to-be caught hiding almost £800,000 worth of drugs

    A father-to-be has been jailed for hiding almost £800,000 worth of drugs in his bedroom.

    Suehjah Al Shamas was arrested when an incident took place on the 10th November last year. Members of a drugs gang confronted his father at his family home in Heaton. Two men wearing balaclavas pushed Shamas’s father inside the house and asked whether his son was at home and then threatened to hit him if he did obey them.

     

    The drugs gang searched Shamas’s bedroom and left the property with three bags and the key to his VW golf. His father reported the incident to the police as a burglary.

     

    Officers attend the house and found a large box on the upstairs landing and a latex glove left on Shamas’s bedroom floor.

     

    Shamas was heard moving stuff around whilst the officers were searching the property and was asked to stop. He was later arrested for obstructing a police officer.

     

    Whilst Shamas was in custody a full examination of his bedroom was conducted where police officer seized crack cocaine and heroin with the street value of approximately £800,000.

     

    At an earlier hearing Shamas pleaded guilty to five charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply.

     

    Recorder Simon Batiste jailed Shamas aged 36 to six years and eight months in prison.
