Fatal collision in Withington

Police are appealing for information following a collision in a car park at Withington Hospital. As a result two women have sadly died.

Shortly after 2pm on Tuesday officers were called to reports of a serious collision between a Ford Focus car and a number of pedestrians in a car park at Withington Hospital.

Two women, aged 44 and 49, were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but sadly both have since died. The next-of-kins have been informed however formal identification are yet to take place.

An 89-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving. He is currently in custody.

Senior Investigating Officer Sergeant Lee Westhead, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit for GMP, said: “My thoughts go out to the families of the two women. An investigation has commenced to establish the exact circumstances and we are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.”
