A blind man from Bradford who was the reported ringleader of a gang who conspired to supply Heroin and Cocaine on the streets of Bradford and Huddersfield has been ordered to pay back nearly £250,000.
Rizwan Arshad of Lower Rushton Road, Thornbury was jailed for 21 years back in 2014 for his crimes and has been back at Bradford Crown for a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act along with his partners in crime Matthew Francois and Aftab Basharat. Arshad was ordered to pay back £245,765.00 within set time periods or face a further 18 months in jail.
At the hearing it was claimed that Francois, of Benny Park Close, Batley, who was jailed for 10 years, had assets which amounted to just £533 and unless that sum is paid he will face a further one month in jail.
Also at the same hearing Basharat, of Derby Road, Bradford, who was jailed for 8 years was said to have benefited from his criminal activities to the sum of £257,180, but with no available assets the judge made a nominal order of just £1.
