Damning inspection report for Bradford-based home care provider

A Bradford based home care provider has been rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission known as CQC

Kalcrest Care Limited, based at Eldon Place, offers personal care and support to people in their own homes. With most of their clients based mainly in the Kirklees/ Leeds and other local authority areas the establishment offers a range of services which include personal care, assistance with medication, cooking meals and other daily activities.

Inspectors visited the facility in October 2016 and reported that a 183 people were using the service even though a registered manager was not in place at the time. The service was rated inadequate in safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership. It was deemed as "requiring improvement" for caring.

The report highlights a number people did not have complete care plans or risk assessments in place, which meant the risks to their health and safety had not been properly assessed. Accidents had not properly been recorded and preventative actions were not always noted to enable staff to learn from the incidents.

A CQC spokesperson said "Most people said they felt safe in the company and the staff. However the timekeeping was poor and care needs were not met since staff didn't arrive on time.”

Following the inspection, Kalcrest Care has informed the CQC it has appointed a manager who would shortly begin the registered manager application process.
