Six new town centre support officers are helping to improve the safety and cleanliness of Huddersfield Town Centre and boosting shopper confidence as Covid restrictions ease.
Kirklees Council have funded the six-month trial posts with Huddersfield BID recruiting and managing the officers. Forming part of the Blueprint plans they will help to create a welcoming, safe and attractive town centre.
Working with Huddersfield BID the town centre support officers will provide a reassuring presence across the town; reminding shoppers of Covid safe measures, helping to reduce anti-social behaviour and reporting environmental issues like damaged pavements or street furniture so it can be fixed quickly.
Huddersfield BID will manage the officers on a day-to-day basis and will work with town centre businesses to identify where they can have most impact.
To further support the reopening of town centres, Kirklees council is also offering tailored PPE packs to businesses and community organisations for their employees in advance of the 12 April reopening
