The famous Cottingley Fairies photograph is to be sold at auction.

The image captured by cousins Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths in the village of Cottingley in 1917 captivated viewers until it was exposed as a hoax.

They even fooled Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle into believing the fairies were real.

The photographs will go under the hammer in Gloucestershire on 4 October and are expected to fetch a magical £2,000.
