Calderdale Council officials have released an official apology after several tonnes of earth and rubble were dumped on graves at a cemetery site.
Stephen Booth is one of many, who have loved ones buried at a plot at Brighouse Cemetery which was covered with dirt and rubble by council workers preparing a nearby burial.
Mr Booth said "I come to the cemetery almost every day but when I came on Tuesday last week I found a huge pile of earth and an old door wedged against my parent's headstones. The plants and flowers on the graves of both my wife and daughter had also been damaged."
Andrew Pitts, Head of Neighbourhoods at Calderdale Council's, said “during the preparation of new graves neighbouring plots can be affected by resulting debris, when this issue does occur, we do all we can to tidy the affected plots. We're sorry for the damage caused to the plants and we will work with Mr Booth to ensure he is happy with the cleaning that is done.”
