Brighouse Parklets Find New Homes in Rastrick

Two community parklets originally installed in Brighouse town centre have been relocated to Rastrick Juniors Football Club and Rastrick Bowling Club, ensuring the spaces continue to benefit local people after being moved to make way for the town’s new market.

Two of Brighouse’s popular parklets have been given a new lease of life in Rastrick, following their removal from the town centre to allow the construction of the new Brighouse Market.

The decked seating areas, complete with benches, plants and trees, were first installed in 2021 as part of Government accelerator funding to deliver early benefits for the town ahead of the £19.1 million Town Deal investment. Last year, they were removed from the Bethel Street car park on the canalside to make way for the market’s redevelopment, with community groups invited to apply to adopt them.

After a transparent assessment process, Rastrick Juniors Football Club and Rastrick Bowling Club were selected to host the parklets. The structures have since been moved out of storage and rebuilt at the clubs, where they will now serve players, visitors, members and the wider community.

David Whitehead, Co-Chair of the Brighouse Town Deal Board, said the move ensures the parklets will “continue to play a role in our community where people can sit, meet and enjoy.”

Cllr Sarah Courtney, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, welcomed the relocation:
“It’s great that local people, plus those visiting from across Calderdale and beyond, can continue to benefit from these, enhancing facilities for our local groups at the heart of their communities.”

At Rastrick Bowling and Social Club, President Eddie Baikie praised the new addition, calling it a valuable enhancement to the club’s outdoor facilities and a boost for its role as a local community hub.

Meanwhile, construction of the new Brighouse Market continues to make strong progress, with Calderdale Council and the Town Deal Board emphasising the wider benefits of the £19 million investment in shaping the town’s future.
