A 34-year-old man is in custody today (Thursday 17 November) after being arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.
The man was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) from an address in Birmingham on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The man is being questioned by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at a police station in the West Midlands.
The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led; there was no threat to the public’s safety.
An address in Birmingham is subject of an ongoing search.
The man was arrested under terrorism legislation, meaning officers have an initial 48 hours to question the suspect before charging, releasing or applying for a warrant of further detention.
